Hoo boy. What can you say about the American Family Association's Bryan Fischer? He's doubling down on his run of anti-Muslim rhetoric with a new, outrageous argument. Muslim Americans, he says, aren't protected by the First Amendment of the Constitution.

"The First Amendment was written by the Founders to protect the free exercise of Christianity. They were making no effort to give special protections to Islam. Quite the contrary…

Islam has no fundamental First Amendment claims, for the simple reason that it was not written to protect the religion of Islam. Islam is entitled only to the religious liberty we extend to it out of courtesy. "

That is, of course, completly and offensively false. Is this guy in some kind of competition with the crazy Koran-burning preacher in Florida?

If the Founders wanted the law to establish, prefer or privilege in any way Christians over others, they wouldn't have written it in such a way as to say exactly the opposite. Religious liberty is for all. it wasn't written to protect Islam and wasn't written to protect Christianity. It was written to protect Americans. All Americans.
