The work to protect the sacred land of Chí’chil Biłdagoteel — loosely translated in English as “Oak Flat” — is ongoing. While advocacy to save Oak Flat has been ongoing for more than 20 years, the religious freedom community was not leading any advocacy efforts until 2021.
Saving Oak Flat is an important environmental issue and an important religious freedom issue. Holy ground not marked with a steeple is no less deserving of protection than a big steepled church that is the heart of a downtown.
