Principles of Local Groups Affiliated with BJC and/or Christians Against Christian Nationalism

Champion religious freedom for all. We affirm that religious freedom is a foundational value that must extend to people of all faiths and none. We oppose efforts to impose any religious belief on others through government action.

Uphold the values of plurality, human dignity, and democracy. We believe that every person deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. A healthy democracy reflects these values by protecting the rights and wellbeing of all people, regardless of faith or background.

Work collaboratively. We partner with other local groups, interfaith organizations, as well as people of other faiths and no faith, to protect democracy and resist efforts to merge religious and political authority.

Build a strong and strategic movement. We focus our efforts to maximize our impact, equipping communities to challenge Christian nationalism in local, state, and national contexts.

Strengthen democracy for the common good. We acknowledge that our democratic institutions have often failed to represent all people equally. We work to ensure a just and inclusive democracy that serves the well-being of all, not just the privileged few.

Practice mutuality. We recognize that those most impacted by injustice should drive decision-making. Rather than assuming what communities need, we listen, learn, and take action in ways that align with their leadership and priorities.
