Open House at the new Baptist Joint Committee on Religious LibertyWritten by Don Byrd

Giving Tuesday is a chance to show our support for the nonprofit organizations we care about and believe in.

All year, I write at this blog about religious liberty, soul freedom, and the separation of church and state as essential pillars in my personal faith. Today is the best day of the year to put my money where my mouth keyboard is.

That is why today I contribute to the Baptist Joint Committee. No organization is better at advocating for and educating about the importance of religious freedom for our faith.

The BJC visits churches and denominational meetings, and receives groups at its Washington, D.C. Center for Religious Liberty. They advocate for thoughtful legislation that impacts religious freedom in the halls of Congress and in state legislatures. They urge federal and state courts to enforce with equal vigor both the right to freely exercise religion and the requirements of church-state separation. And they engage in countless other acts of education and advocacy, in Washington, D.C., and Baptist churches across the country.

In short, the BJC continues the Baptist tradition, dating back to Roger Williams, of standing up for religious liberty for all. And they do it very well.

The BJC has earned our support as people of faith who believe in religious freedom and church-state separation. They have mine. How about you?

If you can, set up a monthly contribution to help them reach their goals, or make a one-time donation. Then tell your friends! Together we can make a real difference.
