Responding to concerns about the use of religion by school representatives during high school football games, school officials in Florida’s Orange County have banned several questionable practices. The rule changes come after the school district’s attorney warned the previous rules would likely lead to costly litigation.

The Orlando Sentinel reports:

The district told school leaders and athletic directors last week that chaplains would no longer be allowed after receiving a complaint from the Freedom From Religion Foundation.

Their letter cited instances of Apopka High School football players praying with Pastor Todd Lamphere of The Venue Church, which meets at Apopka High and two Seminole County public schools.

The Sunshine State News reports the ban also includes signs with Bible references and religious references on athlete clothing.
