In his Senate confirmation hearing yesterday, Secretary of State nominee Rex Tillerson was asked his thoughts on controversial Trump campaign proposals, including the idea of a ban on Muslim immigration and the creation of a Muslim registry. Tillerson says he does not favor a “blanket ban” based on religion; however, he did not rule out the idea of a registry. “I would need to have a lot more information over how such an approach would be constructed,” he replied.

In followup questioning from Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ), Tillerson attempted to clarify his remarks. The two also discussed the impact on U.S. diplomatic relations of statements and policies that may seem disrespectful to Muslims and Muslim nations. You can watch that exchange below:
