Open House at the new Baptist Joint Committee on Religious LibertyWritten by Don Byrd

This Giving Tuesday, I encourage all supporters of the Baptist Joint Committee, and all those who believe in religious liberty for all and the separation of church and state, to show that support by signing up to be a monthly contributor.

I posted earlier about why I support the BJC, and why now is an urgent time to stand with them going forward. But I also want to add a few words about why automatic monthly giving is the contribution method I have chosen.

There are three reasons, mostly practical, and mostly obvious. But worth considering:

1) Automatic giving means I don’t have to remember to write a check or submit a form when I want to contribute. Every month, my donation amount is charged to my debit card, and it comes right out of my bank account. For someone who is busy, or forgetful (I plead guilty to both), this convenience is a godsend.

2) Monthly giving for me means I can give a relatively small amount each month that adds up to a larger annual donation than I probably could have afforded in a one-time gift.

3) Regular, predictable giving helps them! If we all become monthly donors, the BJC will have a better idea of how much they will receive and when they can expect to receive it. Less time and energy pursuing contributions from the strongest supporters means more time and energy to devote to other important work.

So, what are you waiting for? Let retiring executive director Brent Walker know you appreciate his years of leadership. Let the BJC know they can count on you going forward. This Giving Tuesday, become a monthly donor. It’s convenient; it’s economical, and it’s extremely helpful to those who do so much for all of us.
