The Washington Post reports that President Obama has decided to ask Congress for an extension on school vouchers for D.C. students currently enrolled in the program. He remains opposed to the idea of school vouchers, but doesn't want to remove students from their current schools. Nobody's against vouchers more than I am, but it's hard to fault him for that concern.

Judge Michael McConnell is stepping down from the 10th Circuit to join Stanford University as a law professor. McConnell is well-known for his strong beliefs in religion law matters, having authored the recent Colorado Christian University case decision, and a stinging concurrence in the hallucinogenic tea case the Supreme Court eventually affirmed. He also argued successfully as an advocate for public funding of religious institutions in Rosenberger and Mitchell v Helms.

A federal judge ruled that a California teacher violated the Establishment Clause when she called creationist views "superstitious nonsense".
