Following church-state news typically reveals government officials honestly wrestling with difficult and nuanced issues: of accommodation and tradition; of constitutional interpretation and a careful balance of interests. The issues are often quite complex, the subject matter sensitive, and those engaged in conflict are for the most part thoughtful in wanting to be true to themselves and to the law.
