Plaintiffs in Tennessee’s Hamilton County are appealing a judge’s ruling that allowed the County Commission’s revised prayer policy to continue. Judge Harry Mattice concluded the new policy should be given a chance to determine whether it will be inclusive. Plaintiffs argue that the judge should have halted the prayers pending suit, and have asked the 6th Circuit to address the issue.
“The simple fact remains that the (county commission) controls the manner of who gets selected to give a prayer, and the methodology the defendant uses smacks of a disparate impact upon the minorities that make up the citizenry of Hamilton County,” [Attorney Robin] Flores wrote.

The [Chattanooga Times Free Press] reported that since a new policy was adopted, nearly all of the prayers have been Christian prayers, with many offered “in Jesus name.”
