Few institutions have been responsible for more posts here than the School Board of Tangipahoa, Louisiana. Most recently, the 5th Circuit surprised nearly everyone by dismissing a lawsuit challenging their practice of opening meetings with sectarian prayer on the grounds that the plaintiff lacked standing. Trying to head off a follow-up suit, the Board announced a new policy as recommended by the Alliance Defense Fund.
I guess that didn't work. With a new plaintiff, the ACLU is filing suit against them for the 7th time for violating the Establishment Clause. Howard Friedman notes that this suit may wind up affecting more than the immediate practice in question:
This suit may have more than local significance as the policy being challenged is a Model Prayer Policy that the Alliance Defense Fund has recommended to school boards and city councils around the country.
