In a special session yesterday, the Arizona legislature saw committees in both the House and Senate advance a controversial bill that would offer tax credits for corporate donations to private school voucher funds.
The bills are a reaction to an Arizona Supreme Court ruling that two small voucher programs for those children are unconstitutional. Initial priority for the new tuition grants would go initially to those children who received vouchers.
A challenge to a similar tax credit scheme in the state was recently allowed to proceed by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. See previous post here.
