The parent of an Oglethorpe County 5th grader was surprised when his daughter came home from school with a Bible distributed by Gideons. But school officials assure the Scripture was not given during the school day or in the school building:
School principal Kim Lord says that the school didn't require students to take the Bible home and that the exchange didn't take place during the school day. She says it was "as if they were picking up a pamphlet for parks and rec or any other activity."
Just asking – an honest question: is the time when your child walks to the bus after the last class really not part of the "school day"?
Either way, I'm sure the school would allow the local Muslim, Wiccan, and Atheist communities to distribute sacred text and literature during that time as well. Right?
