A story I'll be watching closely today is this afternoon's meeting between Attorney General Eric Holder and religious liberty advocates including the Baptist Joint Committee's Brent Walker. As a followup to their August 30 meeting with Justice Department officials, representatives of organizations also including the Interfaith Alliance, Muslim Advocates and the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism are urging the administration to make clear statements and take strong action in response to the recent rise of anti-Muslim sentiment.
From a press release previewing the stance the groups will reiterate with the Attorney General:
“This week Muslims and Jews will be celebrating the holidays of Eid-al-Fitr and Rosh Hashanah, respectively, in their houses of worship,” said Farhana Khera, Executive Director, Muslim Advocates. “Today’s meeting with the Attorney General sends the strong message to faith communities across America that no one should have to pray in fear and that the federal government will not tolerate hate-motivated violence and intimidation. An attack on one faith community is an attack on us all.”
