The past several years, we have seen the rise of a political ideology and cultural framework that distorts the Christian faith and America’s constitutional democracy — and it poses a real danger to both. In this event, co-sponsored by Georgetown’s Center on Faith and Justice and the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty, experts will explain where White Christian Nationalism came from, what its adherents want and how it seeks to overturn the idea that the United States should be a multi-religious and multiracial democracy.

Participants:
The Most Rev. Michael B. Curry, Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church
Amanda Tyler, executive director of BJC (Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty)
Samuel Perry, Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Oklahoma and author of The Flag and the Cross: White Christian Nationalism and the Threat to American Democracy
Rev. Jim Wallis (moderator), Chair in Faith and Justice at the McCourt School of Public Policy and the Director of the Georgetown University Center on Faith and Justice
