WASHINGTON – Cherilyn Crowe has been named director of communications for the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty.

Crowe joined the BJC staff in 2009 as the associate director of communications. She succeeds Jeff Huett, who has been named the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship’s associate coordinator of communications and advancement in Atlanta.

Baptist Joint Committee Executive Director Brent Walker announced the selection. “Cherilyn is the ideal choice for this important post, carrying forward Jeff Huett’s good work,” Walker said. “Her media experience, passion for religious liberty and winsome personality render her uniquely suited for this central position at the Baptist Joint Committee.”

A native of Fort Payne, Ala., Crowe came to the BJC after spending nearly a decade producing television news at the NewsChannel 5 Network (WTVF-TV) in Nashville, Tenn. As senior producer for the station’s cable channel, she covered elections, political debates, trials and other special projects. Crowe was nominated for the Rising Star award at the 2007 Midsouth Emmys.

A journalism and mass communications graduate of Samford University, Crowe was named the school’s broadcast student of the year in 1999. She later earned a Master of Liberal Arts and Science from Vanderbilt University. Crowe is a member of the Religion Communicators Council in Washington, D.C.

Crowe said she is excited to serve the organization in this new role. “The work of the Baptist Joint Committee is as vital today as any time in history,” Crowe said. “I look forward to sharing the importance of religious liberty in a variety of ways and connecting others to our essential mission.”
