Just a little follow-up note to a story I've been watching, the proposed constitutional amendment referendum in Florida that would remove the "no aid to religion" safeguard. The Orlando Sentinel reports that pursuant to Judge Terry Lewis' ruling last week that the ballot summary is improper, Attorney General Pam Bondi has rewritten the objectionable language.

Bondi's new language mirrors a suggestion Lewis made, by deleting the phrase "consistent with the United States Constitution" and inserting "except as required by the First Amendment of the United States Constitution."

The ACLU was quick to criticize: "Whether in its original form or after today's tinkering by the attorney general, the proposal continues to mislead voters by failing to inform them of the chief purpose and actual impact of the amendment – to virtually require taxpayer funding of religious activities of churches, mosques and synagogues," the group said in a statement.
