Via Religion Clause, Idaho's Nampa Classical Academy, a publicly funded charter school, has filed suit challenging state restrictions on using religious texts in its curriculum. The state's Charter School Commission previously issued a memo ruling the planned use of religious texts as part of its "classical teaching curriculum" out of bounds out of constitutional concerns.
The complaint (pdf), filed by ADF, alleges that the school is being singled out, that the "State Board of Education has approved the use of the Bible as literature in public education curricula, and despite the fact that public schools across the State utilize the Bible and other religious texts routinely in their curriculum."
The school contends the Commission did not object to the use of the Bible as a text during the curriculum planning process, and that its reading of the Idaho Constitution is too narrow.
