Church-State watchdog Americans United is calling out Los Angeles' Oasis Church for advocating on behalf of a local candidate using its official web site and Twitter accounts. From AU's press release:

“Oasis Church’s appeals might have been innovative, but they still violate the law,” said the Rev. Barry W. Lynn, executive director of Americans United. “Federal law bars churches and other tax-exempt non-profits from electioneering. The IRS should crack down on these troubling tweets.”

Perhaps even more troubling, the church's urging of its members to vote for a particular candidate explicitly suggests electing him to the City Council would benefit the church in finding a new venue. You can read details in AU's letter to the IRS here.
