As a case in point, and followup to the post below about the creation of Bible literacy classes in public schools, the Abilene Reporter-News reports on Wylie High School, which this year will be offering such a course. The Texas legislature mandates that schools offer it as an elective if demand is high enough, but has not provided the means for training teachers like Wylie's Eric Thaxton.
Besides the textbook, Thaxton said the state hasn’t offered many specifics about how the class should be taught.
“It would be nice to have some training and some guidance, but I’ll just have to wing it on my own,” he said. “I’ll make it up as I go.”
Comforting, isn't it?
