Via Religion Clause, Chair Melissa Rogers has posted two important votes taken by the President's Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships. 16 of the group's 25 said that religious groups receiving federal money to provide social services should not be asked to remove religious symbols where that activity is taking place. They should, the majority said, be encouraged to be accommodating and sensitive to aid recipients who object.
And by a close 13-12 vote, the council said the government should " require houses of worship to form separate corporations to receive direct federal social service funds." Such a requirement – if implemented – would be a significant protection against the misuse of taxpayer funds for religious purpose.
