Thankfully, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, by a 8-6 vote, has agreed that the cross is indeed a Christian symbol. They voted to leave in place a ruling that the Bladensburg Memorial cross is unlawful.
The 4th Circuit has rejected arguments that a large memorial cross in Prince George’s County, Maryland is a secular commemorative symbol, finding the cross an unconstitutional endorsement of religion.
