wells_headshotI give monthly to the Baptist Joint Committee because the BJC invested in me. As a member of the 2016 BJC Fellows, I was fortunate enough to be able to travel to Colonial Williamsburg and learn about religious liberty with other young professionals. This investment in us showed me that the BJC is serious about the future of religious liberty, and they are continually looking for ways to educate others about its true meaning. I choose to give monthly to be an ongoing part of this organization and their work to educate others. Furthermore, the BJC truly cares about building relationships and working with others to advocate for religious liberty in the United States. By contributing to them, I know I am contributing to the collaborative work of many denominations and religions all working together.
Brent Walker inspires me because he devoted so much of his time and life to advocating for religious liberty. I am a firm believer that, in order to make change of any kind, one must commit to his or her cause and be willing to stay with it for a long period of time. That is the only way to form lasting and changing relationships. Seeing how much he was able to achieve throughout his time with the BJC inspires me to commit to causes in my own life, knowing that the day-to-day work may be hard, but commitment is what helps advance positive and lasting change.
