Counsel for the Old Order Swartzentruber Amish sect in announced they were unable to reach a settlement with the town of Morristown, New York, and wish to proceed to trial in their lawsuit over building code and other city ordinances they say prohibits them from living out their faith.

Howard Thompson, an inmate at the New Jersey State Prison, reached a settlement that will allow him to resume conducting weekly worship services after a ban on prisoner preaching 2 years ago. An ACLU press release is here. You can read the settlement agreement here (pdf).

UN General Assembly President Ali Treki and UN Human Rights Commissioner Navi Pillay both spoke out against Switzerland's controversial and surprising vote to ban the minaret.

The DC City Council voted to allow same-sex marriage despite the Archdiocese of Washington's claim that the religious freedom of organizations receiving government funding for social services is not properly accommodated. The Catholic Church is threatening to stop seeking government contracts to provide essential services in response.
