The Fort Wayne Journal reports on the end of a decades-old program that offered area public school children the option of a 30-minute "time release" to receive religious study at a nearby facility.

After a similar program sparked a lawsuit in Huntington in 2008, Associated Churches Executive Pastor Rev. Roger Reece said his group started to rethink how it managed its program.

Aside from legal concerns, he said the group did not want to take away from the instruction students needed during the day.

Meanwhile, the time release program in Utah – offering students religious instruction in Mormonism during the school day – is so popular that a fight has broken out in the Governor's race over which candidate supports it more fully.
