In an Orlando Sun-Sentinel op-ed, David Barkey and Andrew Rosenkranz of the Anti-Defamation League weigh in on the proposed school prayer bill making its way through the Florida legislature.
[F]or Broward and Palm Beach County high school football players, cheerleaders or band members who make seasonal commitments to be at games, the bill would require them to be subject to unwanted or perhaps offensive prayers. And other kids will be forced to make the choice of participating in school activities or being subject to religious exercises.
Our public schools are for all children. No child should feel ostracized because of religion. Shouldn't our legislators focus on matters that unite us rather than sow religious division and controversy in our schools?
