According to the Phoenix Business Journal, the religious discrimination in the workplace claim against Arizona’s Swift Aviation has settled for $50,000. Supervisors in the company were accused of harassing a Muslim employee in a lawsuit brought by the EEOC.

According to the lawsuit, [former employee Adam] Donmez complained to a supervisor, but Swift Aviation failed to stop the harassment. It got so bad for him that he was forced to resign, according to the EEOC.

“Today’s settlement serves as a message to employers that national origin and religious discrimination is a violation of federal law and will not be tolerated,” said Regional Attorney Mary Jo O’Neill of the EEOC’s Phoenix District Office.

Religious harassment in the workplace isn’t funny. As more and more employers are learning, it’s also potentially a costly violation of federal law.
