Written by Don ByrdAt an event earlier today, Melissa Rogers – former Baptist Joint Committee General Counsel and current Director of the White House Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships – joined with Secretary of State John Kerry and Dr. Shaun Casey to announce the opening of the State Department’s Office of Faith-Based Community Initiatives. The purpose of the Office was described succinctly by Casey, will direct it.

Perhaps an indication it will be revving back up, the President extended the life of the Council for two years with an executive order Friday, just as the authorization for the Council was expiring.

Former Baptist Joint Committee General Counsel Melissa Rogers, who has chaired President Obama’s council of faith-based leaders, has been named the new head of the White House Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, following Joshua Dubois stepping aside after spending the first term on the job.
